Windows XP has a built-in Printer Driver. This driver is automatically installed when you install the printer. It is able to handle many of the lower-end printers that are not difficult to install. However, if you have a difficult-to-install printer, or even if you need something more advanced than built-in printer driver can provide, you need to use a third-party Windows driver.
As mentioned earlier, the configuration screens of this driver are refreshed to reflect any updates made to the printer model.
